Athanasia received her Diploma and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece in 2004 and 2009 respectively. In 2010 she was appointed as a Research Associate in ICT for Independent Living at the Smart Environments Research Group, School of Computing and Mathematics, University of Ulster, UK. In 2012 she joint the Hamlyn Centre, Institute of Global Health Innovation, at Imperial College, London UK, as a Research Associate and conducted research on Quality of Service for Body Sensor Networks.
Since 2013 Athanasia is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Signal Processing Laboratory. Her primary research interests include Wireless Sensor and Body Area Networks, with emphasis on autonomic networking techniques for large-scale networks, and unsupervised feature-level fusion with real-time and distributed characteristics. Her research applies on realistic and RF-harsh environments (e.g., industrial environments) with the ultimate objective of promoting decentralized context-awareness in scalable WSN architectures.
Athanasia has more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks and their applications. She is a chartered engineer from the Technical Chamber of Greece since 2004, a member of IEEE, and she is serving as a reviewer in numerous research forums, edited by IEEE and Springer.
